For the first time in company history, Tiffany & Co. joins the eager throngs of retailers marketing to the LGBTQ community — a 2011 J.Crew catalog casted one of their designers and his boyfriend, Gap shot a couple getting cozy in an impressive 2012 billboard ad, and ever-slick sunglasses line Ray-Ban ran a vintage-ish boy-on-boy campaign that same year.
The jeweler features a a real-life NY gay couple, although their names haven’t been released, in a new engagement ad. Pictured smartly dressed and smiling, the couple sits on quintessential city steps, paired with the words: “Will you promise to never stop completing my sentences or singing off-key, which I’m afraid you do often? And will you let today be the first sentence of one long story that never ends? Will you?”
While it’s great to know that the LGBT community is just as welcome to grab breakfast under the Tiffany blue awnings, it’ll be even better when this is no longer news and same-sex love (and any love, for that matter) becomes perfectly ordinary. Still, bravo Tiffany.
