Lingerie Brand Redefines ‘Nude,’ Creates Underwear Specifically for Women of Color

Women in Nude Colored Lingerie

When it comes to buying lingerie and makeup, ever notice how the term “nude” almost always caters to Caucasian skin tones? Simply Google “nude colors” in images and you’ll see what I mean.

Nude Colored Fashion

Looking to redefine the fashion industry and consumers’s meaning of “nude,” lingerie bran Nubian Skin launced a line of underwear made specifically for women of color. Expanding beyond the tones of ivory and camel, their line features darker shades that range from bronze to deep brown.

Their blog discusses the disparity women of color face:

Despite the reality that women of colour have the same needs as all women when it comes to lingerie and hosiery (and spend the same of their hard-earned money), the industry simply doesn’t cater to us.

So, I thought, it’s time to rethink the definition of nude.

It’s one of the few times that a company has challenged customers to think beyond the term “nude” as just a name, but as a indicator of who the industry accommodates. By taking control and creating a virtually nonexistent product, Nubian Skin fills the lack of diversity that surprisingly still exists in the realm of fashion.

Their new collection launches online in October.
