The definition of beauty is temperamental. What we consider to be desirable changes from month to month, decade to decade, country to country.
Wanting to capture a sense of the world’s varied perspective of “beauty,” Priscilla Yuki Wilson, a half-Japanese and half-black woman, sent an unedited photo of herself to over 25 different countries, asking each designer to edit her headshot according to their idea of “beautiful.”
“In these images my Asian and African aesthetics are combined with Latina, Vietnamese and European features,” she tells Aplus. “Either pigeon holing me into a more narrow racial understanding or reaching an entirely new level of racial ambiguity.”
