Afroman Remakes ‘Because I Got High’ to Support Legal Pot

More than a decade after his ode-to-weed “Because I Got High” first rolled through radio waves, Afroman is back with a shiny new remake to support marijuana legalization. The update to the classic song we’ve all hot-boxed to further solidifies it as a stoner anthem.

While the rapper’s original single details his misadventures resulting from getting high and smoking fat blunts with Jay and Silent Bob, the remix take a more positive approach. Whilst kicking back on a cruising on a couch, Afroman croons:

I had problems with glaucoma/But then I got high/Smelled the cannibis aroma/And I got high/Glaucoma getting better and I know why

Support Legal Pot

The new music video unites the efforts of Weedmaps — a pot shop locator — and NORML, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. “With the current political battle with states trying to legalize weed, I thought it was a good time to educate – or set the record straight – about marijuana’s benefits, which is why I wanted to remake the song,” Afroman tells Rolling Stone.
