Photographer Sends Clients Literal USB Thumb Drives

Toronto-based photographer Justin Poulsen was all thumbs when crafting his 2015 promotional mailer. Rather than send out the usual USB drives that have a 99 percent chance of getting lost in someone’s crumpled Subway sandwich bag, Poulsen fashion silicon severed fingers embedded with USB keys.

The bloody thumbs offer the shocking visual of human digits sticking out of a computer port, an eerie and surreal meeting of flesh and tech. From the dried blood to the pale cuticles, each item was sculpted by the photographer himself. As for the faces of his potential clients when they received a bodily extremity in the mail? “Stick out like a sore thumb” indeed.
